Twelve experts from different professional and personal backgrounds in relation to digital technology were invited for a forecasting dinner event, raising questions and new insights on the future of the concept of ‘the self’ in the digital era.
This trend forecasting event was the second part of the /b/channel triptych series, a collaboration between NXS and fanfare, that took place on May 3rd, 2018.
NXS applied the set-up and social rules of an intimate dinner - informal, trustful, sharing, engaging, bonding - to engage the invitees in a broader discussion on relevant questions concerning implications of the daily use of digital technology for ‘the self’. They were served a four course dinner, prepared and conceptualized by Hannes Bernard (SulSolSal) in collaboration with NXS. The menu courses and table set-up were designed in such a way that they posed different themes and questions, each instigating new directions and entrances for conversation.
The results of these discussions have been transformed into a framework and visual map of the different answers, questions and new associations that were raised, which finally resulted in the creation of the speculative guide, or trend forecast Future Ruins, the third and final edition of the /b/channel series.
Participants: Reba Maybury, Daniel van der Velden, Melanie Bonajo, Dian Nathan Marsh, Geoffrey Lillemon, Anita Fontaine, Josephine Bosma, Nadine Roestenburg, Lotte van den Hoef, Freja Kir, and Leendert Sonneveld.
