Reba Maybury, aka Mistress Rebecca, led us in the world of male sexual fetishes, power of women, society’s current obsession with shaming, personal fortune and self presentation online through a performative reading.
NXS collaborated with project space and design collective fanfare on a series of 3 events called /b/channel, taking place between Spring 2018 and Winter 2019. /b/channel allows for an open experimental approach to ways of acquiring new knowledge and in-depth observations of current tendencies in the context of design and artistic practice.
NXS used the open format to open up their research process to a wider public. The first edition took place on 1 March 2018, and served as a transition moment between the last release of NXS #2 Synthetic Selves, which questions our agency in constructing our online identities and the following issue NXS #3 Viral Bodies, which investigates the changing concepts of gender and identity norms in the digital space.
During this event NXS introduced their upcoming issue and invited guest and contributor to NXS#3 Viral Bodies Reba Maybury to do a performative reading of her writings on her work and experiences as a dominatrix and how this concept of role play is mediated through technology.
